[Metaverse Introduction] This article will analyze whether AR/VR headsets have a real chance to become the next star product in the consumer electronics field from the perspectives of technology, market, and future trends.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies have been considered as the gateways to the Metaverse, as they can create immersive and interactive experiences, bringing users entirely new sensory stimulation and cognitive expansion.

However, despite decades of development, their popularity and application in the consumer electronics field are still far below expectations.

According to data from International Data Corporation (IDC), while global shipments of AR/VR head-mounted displays reached 11.2 million units in 2021, setting a historic high, shipments in 2022 declined to only 9.7 million units, a year-on-year drop of 12.8%. Compared to other consumer electronics products such as smartphones, these figures still pale in significance.
